Our last Elevate session focused on how to pitch.
Elevate: LinkedIn 101 was about something that comes before that – how to get into rooms where pitching is even possible.
LinkedIn, when used intentionally, isn’t about visibility for visibility’s sake. It’s a tool to earn conversations, build trust over time, and eventually land meetings where real exchanges can happen.
Key learnings from the session
One of the strongest takeaways from the workshop was this:
everyone is just six handshakes away from you.
We explored network theory – the idea of strong ties (people you know well) and loose ties (people you’ve met once or know of). LinkedIn allows you to thoughtfully move through loose ties, and even loose ties of loose ties, to reach people you would otherwise never meet.
But access alone isn’t enough.
We spoke about:

Being clear on who you want to connect with – and why.

Understanding your persona and posting content that they would care about

Preparing for conversations before coffee or meetings

Moving beyond transactional conversations about hiring or partnerships

Connecting as humans first – through shared curiosity, values, and lived experience
Meaningful networking happens when there’s genuine conversation, not an agenda-heavy pitch.
And yes — a special mention to Akash, Bhalerao who somehow managed to explain all of this using pop culture references so well that our Netflix, Prime, and Hotstar subscriptions finally felt justified.
